Teeth Whitening

There are a number of other factors that can cause teeth to become yellowed, brown, or gray. Tooth discoloration can occur from habits such as drinking coffee and tea, and smoking. Certain medications, such as tetracycline, can also affect tooth color, while poorly done tooth restorations can cause a dark line to appear near the gumline. Also, as we age our teeth tend to lose their brightness and gradually adopt a darker shade.

Thankfully, teeth whitening is a simple, relatively fast and minimally invasive procedure that can really enhance the beauty of your smile and provide a big boost in confidence.

We offer both in-house and at-home teeth whitening treatments for your convenience. Both are very effective and safe and will produce stunning results that will make you smile.

Why Get Your Teeth Whitened by a Professional?

When you come to see us for teeth whitening, he will take into account the current state of your teeth and whether there are any issues, such as cavities or gum disease, that require treatment prior to the procedure.

Our in-office whitening is done with the utmost care to ensure a superior outcome that you will love. Or, if you prefer a more gradual route to whitened teeth, you can take advantage of our convenient at-home system. It includes a whitening tray made specifically for your teeth, ensuring proper distribution of just the right amount of whitening gel.

Over-the-counter systems can only provide you with a generic, noncustom tray which can leak the whitening solution onto your gums and cause sensitivity, or leak it into your mouth where it can be swallowed and possibly irritate your throat. Additionally, over-the-counter teeth whitening solutions are not regulated by the FDA and may not be as safe as those which your dentist provides.

The porcelain veneer (also known as “dental veneer”) has come a long way in strength and esthetics over the last 20 years. Porcelain veneers are made of lithium disilicate Emax porcelain which closely replicates enamel, the outer layer of your teeth. A porcelain veneer is typically a very thin layer of porcelain ranging from 0.3mm – 0.5mm thick (half the width of a dime).
Porcelain veneers are not only for enhancing a smile, but can be used to correct multiple dental problems, including:

  • tooth asymmetries
  • crowding
  • spacing
  • providing a brighter color that will not fade, stain, or lose its shine
  • correct worn or cracked teeth

All of these common dental complaints can be fixed at once with porcelain veneers. Years of treatment are not required!
Dr. Martinson and Greene use the latest diagnostic techniques to determine which patients can benefit from porcelain veneers or dental veneers. Dr. Martinson is trained to analyze your facial features, your jaw relationship (the way your teeth come together when you close your mouth), and your teeth and gums in order to properly diagnose the perfect smile enhancement for you. Porcelain veneers will feel and look like natural teeth – giving you the smile you always dreamed of having.
If you are ready to step your beauty and confidence up to a whole new level schedule an appointment and see how a smile makeover can benefit you!

A perfect result of a dentist’s work which is seen in the beautiful and white smile on a patient who is absolutely satisfied with a result of a treatment given in a clinic.

Bonding

Before and after dental bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which the dentist will apply a tooth-colored dental resin to correct minor flaws in your teeth, such as chips, cracks or small gaps. The material used in dental bonding is the same that is used for tooth-colored fillings and is directly applied to your teeth. It is then molded into shape and hardened using a special curing light. After any finishing touches, the bonding will be polished to achieve an aesthetic sheen that blends in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Dental bonding is a relatively fast and easy procedure that requires only one visit.

Our doctors are experienced with dental bonding and uses it often, especially in cases where there is a minimal amount of repair needed. We may also use dental bonding for minor cosmetic work, such as covering any discoloration of your teeth or making small

changes to their shape or size.

What Conditions Can Dental Bonding Fix?

Dental bonding can be appropriat for:

  • Adding length to your teeth
  • Changing the shape of your teeth
  • Whitening discolored teeth
  • Closing gaps between your teeth
  • Making your teeth look bigger
  • Making your teeth look more even
  • Repairing cracks or chips
  • Protecting your tooth when gums have receded
  • Filling cavities

Dental Bonding vs. Veneers

Our doctors consider dental bonding to be a good solution for short-term fixes. However, it has several disadvantages when compared with porcelain veneers in the long-term.
The dental resin used in bonding is somewhat fragile, and it can discolor over time. It also tends to lose its luster and responds poorly to polishing.
Our porcelain veneers are made of a strong, layered porcelain that looks beautifully natural, and they respond well to cleaning and polishing, just like your natural teeth. Veneers are an excellent long-term solution if you are not completely happy with the appearance of your teeth.

We welcome you to come in and take advantage of our Complimentary Cosmetic Consultation. Our doctors will examine you and let you know if dental bonding is right for you. Do you have a smile that you’d like to improve? Are you hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing smile, and/or to restore function to your mouth? If so, you may have begun researching the options that Heather Martinson DDS can perform. And you may have come across two terms – a full mouth dental reconstruction and a smile makeover. The terms seem so similar, so what’s the difference? Which procedure is right for you? Read on as we explain the differences between a full mouth dental reconstruction and a smile makeover, and help you determine which procedure will give you the results you desire.

What is a Full Mouth Dental Reconstruction?

A full mouth dental reconstruction is when you undergo a series of dental procedures to restore both the function and aesthetics of your smile. Full mouth dental reconstructions are typically performed for Belmont residents who have a high number of missing and/or damaged teeth or advanced gum disease that is threatening the loss of teeth. Full mouth dental reconstruction restores a patient’s dental functionality, while also improving the aesthetics of his or her smile.

What is Included in a Full Mouth Dental Reconstruction?

A full mouth dental reconstruction can include a variety of dental procedures, including:

  • Root canals to fix severely infected teeth;
  • Tooth extraction to remove teeth that cannot be repaired with a root canal;
  • Dental implants, which are titanium bars that are inserted into the jawbone and covered with crowns to replicate the look of teeth. Dental implants are the most permanent tooth replacement solution, and if treated properly, can last a lifetime;
  • Crowns, to restore structural flaws;
  • Dental bridges, which are a series of three or more connected crowns that are used to replace missing teeth. With bridges, the two end crowns are placed on your existing, healthy teeth and the middle crown or crowns replace your missing teeth; and
  • Porcelain veneers, which may be used to cover chipped or discolored teeth that may be otherwise healthy.

What is a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover is a series of dental procedures that you undergo primarily for cosmetic purposes. For patients with healthy, but misaligned or gapped teeth, a smile makeover can transform a smile into a more aesthetically pleasing one, often boosting confidence and making patients want to show off their pearly whites more frequently.

What is Included in a Smile Makeover?

A smile makeover combines a variety of cosmetic dental procedures, including:

  • Teeth whitening, to brighten up discolored teeth;
  • Porcelain veneers, which are a thin, shell like, layer of porcelain that are placed over existing teeth that have flaws, such as chips or discolored spots;
  • Braces or Invisalign, which can be used to correct misaligned teeth; and
  • Crowns, while typically a functional procedure, they can also be used to cover teeth that have unattractive flaws.

    How Can I Determine if I Need a Full Mouth Dental Reconstruction or a Smile Makeover?

    If you want a new smile, a visit with Heather Martinson DDS & Associates can help you determine if you are a candidate for a full mouth dental reconstruction or a smile makeover. Call our office today at 817-483-6699 to schedule your initial examination today.

    Gum Contouring

    Sick of having a “gummy” or crooked-looking smile? Gum contouring can  be used to remove excess tissue from the gum line. If your gums overpower your smile and make your teeth look too small, or if your gum line is asymmetrical, this could be a perfect solution for you!

    Contouring is generally done with a laser and only takes minutes to remove unnecessary tissue. The laser gently shapes the tissue, with minimal (if any) discomfort or bleeding.

    Call today and see if gum contouring is right for you!
