Have Fun Defeating Cavities!

  • Ask your parents to help you pick out a toothbrush and toothpaste! There are all kinds of cool toothbrushes to pick from, ones that glow, spin, have your favorite characters… Pick out one that will make you smile when you brush your teeth! There are also some tasty flavors of fluoride toothpaste for kids, like berry and bubble gum.
  • Brush 2 times a day for 2 minutes each time! Make it fun! Play music or sing a silly song while you brush. You can even download the Tooth savers Brushing Game below to play for free while brushing your teeth! (Click here to print a fun calendar to keep track of your brushing.)
  • Morning and bedtime are great times to brush. Use a pea-size amount of toothpaste and brush every part of each tooth with tiny circles.
  • Floss once a day! Your parents might have to help you with this, but it is REALLY important to get those “nasties” out from between your teeth and around your gums. (Check out the video below to find out more about the invisible nasties in your mouth.)
  • Don’t eat very many candies and other sweets. The sugar sticks to your teeth and can give you cavities! The sugar in sweet drinks does the same thing, so try to stay away from sugary drinks like pop and Kool-aid and drink more water instead.
  • Ask your mom and dad to take you to visit a dentist. Your visit will be a fun adventure! The younger you go, the better. You can go as early as 1 year old, so you can even bring your little brother or sister along for a visit! Come back and visit every 6 months to keep your smile clean and healthy.
